How does someone determine which way to subtract two functions when completing integration to find the area between the functions?  For two functions f(x) and g(x), how does someone decide whether to complete the definite integral of [f(x) – g(x)] or to complete the definite integral of [g(x) – f(x)] ?  Give an example with your explanation.
