Introduction: This assignment is designed for students in the medical college to create a family genogram and apply family systems theories to analyze the dynamics of the family. The assignment will evaluate the student’s ability to identify significant alliances among the family members, describe their relationships with each member, and cite and discuss at least one family systems theory.

Answer:

The Family Systems project requires students to create a family genogram that includes all the members of their family over two generations. The genogram should also identify significant alliances among the family members and indicate the student’s relationship with each member. It is essential to provide a key that indicates the relationships and also list their diagnosis. Failure to provide a key will lead to a loss of points.

Additionally, students are expected to cite and discuss at least one family systems theory or therapy, such as the structural family system, family systems therapy/theory (Bowen), or solutions-focused system, to support their analysis of the family genogram. This will enable students to identify patterns of behavior and communication in the family and how they impact the overall dynamics of the family system.
