Introduction:
In this assignment, we will discuss the comparison of the US health system with at least two other comparable countries in terms of major health outcomes and healthcare spending differences. We will also explore the reasons behind these differences and suggest potential ideas for changes that can be made to the current US healthcare system. Additionally, we will also identify key opportunities related to advocacy and politics interventions that can be done by advanced practice nurses to improve the current health system.

1. Description of the US Health System Compared to Other Countries:
According to the Peterson-Kaiser Health System Tracker and OECD Health Statistics 2022, the US health system compares poorly to other comparable countries. In terms of major health outcomes, the US has a lower life expectancy rate, higher mortality rate, and a higher prevalence of chronic disease than other comparable countries. Additionally, the US healthcare system spends significantly more than these countries. For instance, the US spends almost twice as much as the OECD average on healthcare, and yet it has fewer available hospital beds and physicians per capita.

2. Reasons Behind These Differences and Potential Ideas for Changes:
The reasons behind these differences can be attributed to various factors, such as the higher administrative costs of the US healthcare system, the higher prices of healthcare services and drugs, and the fragmented care delivery system. One potential idea to address these issues is to implement a single-payer healthcare system, similar to what countries like Canada and Switzerland have. This system could help reduce administrative costs and streamline the delivery of healthcare services. Additionally, promoting competition among healthcare providers and drug manufacturers through price negotiation and transparency could help reduce prices and costs.

3. Key Opportunities for Advocacy and Politics Interventions by Advanced Practice Nurses:
Advanced practice nurses can advocate for the implementation of policies aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs, such as expanding access to preventive care services, promoting patient-centered care models, and advocating for healthcare price transparency. Additionally, they can participate in health policy development and implementation by serving on advisory committees or engaging in lobbying efforts. Advanced practice nurses can also educate and empower patients to become more involved in their care decisions and health outcomes.
