Answer 1:
The healthcare system in Saudi Arabia is currently undergoing major changes to ensure financial sustainability and improve the quality of care provided to patients. The government is restructuring the healthcare system to introduce insurance coverage and privatize public hospitals, with a goal to increase the private sector’s contribution to the country’s total health expenditure to 35% by 2020. Additionally, the government is developing a national health insurance system that will provide universal coverage for all Saudi citizens and expatriates, funded by contributions from employers and employees.

Answer 2:
Health care financing is a crucial area of policy relevance globally, particularly in achieving Universal Health Coverage. In Saudi Arabia, the government finances public healthcare through oil revenue, while private healthcare expenditures are covered through a combination of employer insurance and out-of-pocket payments. The Ministry of Health provides an integrated network of healthcare services, including free medical care for citizens. Prioritizing primary healthcare is a key component of the country’s current health reforms, which focus on addressing the increasing burden of noncommunicable diseases.
